Modernizing a World-Class Research Institution
The International Computer Science Institute partnered with Metropolis Creative to redesign its website and create a digital experience that better reflects the caliber of its research and the people behind it. The goal was to transform an outdated website into a modern platform that makes it easy for researchers, principal investigators, postdoctoral scholars, students, collaborators, and visitors to discover ICSI’s work, explore opportunities, and navigate the institute’s growing body of research. Built on WordPress, the new website gives the ICSI team a flexible foundation that’s easy to manage, expand, and adapt as the institute continues to evolve.
Modernized User Experience
ICSI’s website brings together a vast collection of research themes, research groups, projects and initiatives, researchers, and impact stories. We designed an experience that helps visitors confidently explore the institute’s work while uncovering the connections between its people, research, and real-world impact.
Showcasing the People
The people behind ICSI are woven throughout nearly every part of the website. We designed a flexible system that allows the institute to feature individuals wherever they’re most relevant, while giving each person a dedicated profile that brings together their biography, expertise, affiliations, awards, and institute involvement.
Every great digital experience begins with structure. Long before the visual design took shape, we mapped out how ICSI’s research, people, and programs would connect across the website. Through an extensive wireframing process, we defined the information architecture, content hierarchy, and user journeys that shaped every page that followed.
The Outcome
ICSI’s work deserves a website that’s as thoughtful as the research itself. More than a visual redesign, this project was about bringing clarity to a vast and interconnected collection of people, research, and initiatives while preserving the depth that makes the institute unique. The result is a digital experience that’s easier to explore, easier to manage, and built to evolve alongside ICSI for years to come.
